Isabelle was born into the world on February 4, 2005. Two days after her birth, the doctors diagnosed her with a series of complex congenital heart defects: Atrial Septal Defect, Ventrical Septal Defect (considered DORV - Double-Outlet Right Ventrical), Mitral Stenosis and Hypoplastic Left Ventrical. The last two catapulted her into "HLHS" status, which required her to have the three-stage Fontan surgery series (Norwood, Glenn and Fontan).
She had her first surgery on March 8, 2005, her second on August 17, 2005, and her Fontan on August 25, 2008. While she recovered well from the first two surgeries, her heart couldn’t tolerate the Fontan procedure. On October. 11, the doctors reversed the Fontan procedure, but her heart was just too weak from all the events that she'd experienced. Fortunately, we were referred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for a heart transplant evaluation. Isabelle stayed in the SLCH CICU for 6 weeks and in the last 3 weeks she was improving to the point where she could sit up and play, but her health was still critical.
Our hearts were broken on December 6th when Isabelle suffered another heart attack. She struggled for five more days then passed away in her parent's arms on December 11, 2008 due to heart failure while waiting for a heart transplant. We buried our Princess on December 17, 2008 in the Eudora Cemetery. The details of her services are on the Celebration of Life page. We created Isabelle's Memorial Fund to help raise awareness and bring assistance to other families with critically ill children. We have called this fund "HOPE" (The Heart Of A Princess Eternally). Please visit the "How to help" webpage for complete information about the fund.
Thank you for all the love and support you've shown us.
Warmest regards, Chris, Amanda, ^Isabelle^ and Elorah
Isabelle's birthday was on February 4th. It was to be her 4th birthday. She was looking forward to getting more Princess dresses, more dancing lessons, cake and ice cream and lots of presents from her family and friends. Her birthday meal was to be Macaroni & Cheese (her favorite).
